Inside one of the courtyards of GeYuan, in YangZhou. A design theme of traditional Chinese gardens, there is a centre courtyard in each wing of the compound. It was explained to us that each roof tile is individually engraved with characters referencing fortune, an indication of the family's occupation. This was the garden of a very wealthy salt merchant, the local trade. Beautifully constructed - a dream summer home. Imagine, if there was a soft spring rain, water droplets gently dripping down from each intricate tile.
