G20 Summit - Toronto Protests Part I

Contrary to the advice I received from many of my friends, I went deep into the downtown core of Toronto this weekend, to document the protests during the G20 Summit. This Saturday, June 26, 2010 was the opening day of the G20 meetings, and Fortress Toronto was in complete lockdown. With kilometres of fences installed, thousands of police and riot squads deployed, and all downtown businesses boarded up and closed, this was something that the city had never witnessed. I began my day on the subway, trying to go south to Queen's Park, our provincial legislature. Just before 1pm, the police announced that all subway trains travelling south would be stopped and turned back. I walked about 7 kilometres, arriving just in time to see the rallies begin snaking their way onto the streets. Here is some of what I saw.
