2008 Hoffmann-Simon Riesling Kabinett, QmP Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Mosel
For our first hotpot of this winter, going back to what I know. Trying only seafood this year - fresh fish, clams, shrimp, and of course, all the mushrooms and greens to give some semblance of balance.
Young Mosel, always nice. Kabinetts from this vintage show so ripe, maybe a bit too much of a good thing - they all need a good 10 years of bottle age, settle down a bit. Good intensity, creamy and rich, with a slight push of acidity. Balanced, but just not as razor sharp as I want from a young Mosel, just not enough energy. I need to be electrified, and this wine isn't satisfying that urge.
