My first day in Paris was to be dedicated to a man who's been deeply influential and inspirational to me - and so it was, on a bright morning, that I found myself climbing the steep hills of the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise. It was peaceful, serene . . . up some steps, in a tidy row, lay Frédéric François Chopin. I regretfully neglected to bring flowers, but I did leave a short note.
Morose as it may seem, I'd wanted to pay my respects here for many years. And now that I had finally seen him . . . it was time for lunch at Les Halles, and the magnificent Église Saint-Eustache.
